Easier scanning and more: DEVONthink (and DEVONnote) 2.4.2
Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA), Sep 13, 2012 — DEVONtechnologies LLC enhances the new scanning feature in all editions of DEVONthink 2.4.2, adds support for OS X 10.8's Calendar and Reminders applications, and improves the first launch experience with a new assistant. All editions including DEVONnote also receive bug fixes. The update is recommended for all users.
The maintenance release facilitates scanning documents with multiple pages using the new scanning feature of DEVONthink, which is also available in the Personal and Pro editions, and adds support for OS X 10.8's Calendar and Reminders applications to DEVONthink Pro and up. Scanning to PDF or TIFF reveals a convenient "Combine into single document" option which, when checked, directly collects all scanned pages into a new document. No more manual collecting, no additional clicks necessary. The updated scripts add selected documents or groups to Calendar or Reminders and remind you at a given item. A link added to the notes of the event or reminder lets you open the document with a single click later.
Students — just gathering their stuff for the new semester — will love the much faster and more reliable integration with the well-known reference and bibliography manager Bookends. The new script retrieves and uses the reference title now, too (requires Bookends 11.3.3 or later). Collect your references in Bookends and add them to your DEVONthink database with all the PDFs, links, and other materials, quickly and always with a link back to Bookends.
The new launch assistant greets you as a first-time user of DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office and guides you through three simple steps instead of overwhelming you with opening multiple windows: setting up a database, installing add-ons, and adjusting the preferences. It's as easy as 1-2-3.
In addition, DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.4.2 use stricter rules for duplicates, better localized sorting, come with updated RSS style sheets optimized for Retina displays (Pro and up), and improved 64-bit support. As always the updates fix known bugs and further boost the performance that our applications are well-known for. We recommend this update for all users with an Intel-based Mac running OS X 10.6.8 or later.
"DEVONthink is a powerful product — and sometimes with power comes complexity. With the new option for quickly combining multiple pages into a new document without any further actions we're making capturing documents much simpler, and the assistant gets new users flying without scaring them away with installers, windows, and jumping Dock icons. And we won't stop here", says Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.
