DEVONthink Pro Office 2.9.14 Fixes OCR Issue

Today we’ve released a bug-fix release for DEVONthink Pro Office. Version 2.9.14 fixes a random issue with the text recognition (OCR) as well as issues related to thumbnailing PDFs, exporting items, and synchronizing databases with indexed items. In addition it fixes an issue where the metadata entry panel didn’t close on computers with a Touch Bar. (more)

Perfect Combination: DEVONthink To Go and Scanner Pro

We have told the great people at Readdle that our mobile users love the combination of their Scanner Pro app and DEVONthink to Go. Scanner Pro lets you use your iPhone’s or iPad’s camera for quickly scanning paper documents wherever you are. It applies all sorts of magic to make the document look as good as possible and then lets you share the created PDF with other apps. (more)

Fujitsu Publishes Fix Schedule for macOS Sierra Problems

Fujitsu Warns About ScanSnap Problems with macOS Sierra

Many of you are using a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners for capturing documents. Before you jump onto the macOS Sierra train please read the following warning that Fujitsu just published:

Problems regarding the compatibility with macOS Sierra have been found. Please do not use ScanSnap applications on macOS Sierra. Also, before upgrading your OS to macOS Sierra, please be sure to make a backup copy of the PDF files created by using ScanSnap applications. We will provide you the solution to these issues as soon as available. New Tutorials About Scanning and Setting Up a ScanSnap

With DEVONthink 2.4 we have introduced our new scanner/camera import window, and just yesterday we have released an update that makes scanning with Image Capture compliant flatbed scanners or all-in-one devices a lot more comfortable. Today we have published two new tutorials that guide you through the new scanner/camera import window (all editions of DEVONthink) and through setting up a Fujitsu ScanSnap document scanner for use with DEVONthink Pro Office. Easier Scanning with DEVONthink

DEVONthink’s new scanning function unified the various scanning options of previous versions and made paper capture available also for users of the Personal and Pro editions. But users are still missing some of the more advanced options, for example convenient capturing of documents with multiple pages. DEVONthink 2.4.2, which we have released today, supports the option Combine Into Single Document whenever you scan as PDF or TIFF. Just name the document and start scanning; DEVONthink creates a new document for you that you just have to send to your database when you’re done with all pages. (more)

Dragging School Papers into the 21st Century

In a recent article on TidBITS Tonya Engst talks about how she manages school papers digitally:

The ScanSnap is addictive, and I’ve hardly begun to learn how to use it. Here’s how cool it is: My son comes home from the first day of school with a fistful of forms and handouts. I open the scanner, stick them in, choose an option from the ScanSnap icon in the Dock, and push the big blue button on the scanner. Within moments (or minutes if I chose to run OCR) the entire pile is onscreen, even the double-sided forms and the pages that emerge from the backpack slightly crumpled. (more)
