We have just silently updated DEVONthink Pro Office to version 2.0.1. Version 2.0 as released yesterday did not correctly unlock the OCR and email archiving functionality after entering the license code. If you have experienced this problem please download the new version from our download page or use DEVONthink Pro Office’s built-in update function. For all other editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONnote no update is necessary.

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.0 are finally here. No more public betas, no more expiration dates. All promised features have been added, all known bugs fixed. Primetime! And this we want to celebrate! This Tuesday, Jan 12, 2010, Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, was struck by a catastrophic-scale earthquake. The International Red Cross reports that as many as 3 million people are affected by the quake; tens of thousands of people have been killed, likely up to 100,000 or more. (mehr)

Neither have I moved to an Internet-free zone nor have I forgotten about my blog. — True is that I have taken over a programming project for our company that will reach beta phase in the not-too-far future. Today we have released public beta 8 of DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.0. We have polished the user interface, made the installation dead-simple, added new smart templates and revised the older ones, reinvented the columns view, and — finally — added smart tagging.

For everyone using a ScanSnap scanner with Snow Leopard: Fujitsu has just posted an upgrade for their ScanSnap Manager software. You can download it from the Fujitsu website.

DEVONthink Pro Office uses Image Capture, Mac OS X’s own scanning framework, for accessing flat bed scanners, all-in-one devices, and document scanners (the Fujitsu ScanSnap is an exception, it uses a proprietary driver software). How would you know that your scanner is compatible? Simply try it. But, finally, with Mac OS X 10.6 ‘Snow Leopard’, there is a simpler way: Apple has published a list of compatible scanners: Click here to look up your scanner. Thank you, Apple! (mehr)

Just a quick note that Mac OS X 10.6.1 again breaks compatibility with the earliert version of the Mail.app plug-in. You may should know that Apple Mail does not support third-party plugins at all so what we did is basically a hack (one reason we did not make a plug-in for Safari but a bookmarklet). The solution is simple: choose Help > Install Add-ons… and re-install the Mail.app plug-in to update it. This installs a newer version of the plug-in which will happily work with 10.6.1.
