Mountain Lion updates for DEVONthink and DEVONnote
Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA), Aug 9, 2012 — DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases updates for its popular document and information manager DEVONthink and the smart notebook app DEVONnote. The updates make the applications compatible to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, bring a rewritten scan function that is now also available in all editions of DEVONthink, and fix minor glitches.
The mountain lion is roaring and we all have heard its call. The update to version 2.4 gains the Gatekeeper's goodwill and feeds the cat with support for Notification Center and the new Sharing Services. Share documents with one click via iMessage, Mail, Twitter, Facebook, or Airdrop or add them to Safari’s Reading List. The new 64-bit support enables you to create databases only limited in size by the available memory and performance of the computer.
All editions of DEVONthink have the ability to capture paper documents from scanners and cameras compliant to OS X's Image Capture including iPhones, iPads, and iPods. We have rewritten this functionality, which was previously only available in DEVONthink Pro Office, from the ground up to make use of Apple's newest technology. Scan your paper documents with just a few clicks on any compatible scanner, collect multiple pages into a document if necessary, and save it to your inbox.
"We believe in the paperless office and deliver the #1 Mac application for managing it with DEVONthink Pro Office. But not all users need the high-end features of the Pro Office edition so we have added our completely rewritten scan feature to all editions of DEVONthink, starting with DEVONthink Personal. Use any scanner from flatbed to automatic document feeder as long as it's compatible to Image Capture," comments Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.
DEVONthink Pro Office 2.4 lets you import email messages faster, handles badly encoded HTML messages more reliably, and fixes encoding problems with OCR and e.g. Turkish or Eastern European languages. Archive newly arrived email messages or files to your DEVONthink Pro or Pro Office databases automatically with new rule scripts for Apple Mail and folder actions for the Finder. And if the more than 80 included scripts are not enough use the enhanced AppleScript support to write your own exciting enhancements for DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office. Our new video tutorials, available from the Help menu, demonstrate key features and show you how to use them.
In all editions of DEVONthink you can now copy text from views based on Quick Look and you will less likely see PDF documents marked falsely as being duplicates. If you are a student you will also like the enhanced interoperability with EndNote, Sente, and especially Bookends.
"Integration with other applications has always been a key focus of our software. We have worked with the developer of Bookends to much tighter integrate the two applications. Drag references from Bookends to DEVONthink with Command and Option held to add full rich text summaries to your database, use the enhanced smart template to create styled rich text files with data from Bookends, or import multiple references using the new batch import script," says Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.
Finally, both DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.4 update the tag handling, add new keyboard shortcuts and optional toolbar items, and improve TextExpander compatibility. As always the updates fix known bugs and further boost the performance that our applications are well-known for. We recommend this update for all users.
