Christmas is near but we have worked up to the last minute to provide you with the latest builds before we switch off our Macs and spend some relaxing days with our families. Public beta 3 of our sync technology fixes a few minor but annoying bugs and public beta 4 of the web sharing plugin improves the whole user experience.
OS X El Capitan is out and DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.7 add some necessary changes for it. In addition to this we’ve overhauled the built-in synchronization both between Macs and from Mac to iOS. Importing or indexing files is up to twice as fast as in previous versions and DEVONthink 2.8.7 groups attachments and cross-links them when taking over notes from Evernote. (mehr)
With the Apple Watch comes not only the first wearable computing device that could reach the masses. There also comes the trend towards personalization. The Apple Watch Edition sets the new mark. Of course we don’t want to stand back and so we proudly present: DEVONthink Gold Edition. (mehr)
Now that we’ve published a large number of screencasts about DEVONthink we have caught up with DEVONagent Pro. In the Support Assistant (choose Help > Tutorials inside the application) you’ll find seven new screencasts showing you how to search effectively with DEVONagent, explaining what search sets, Boolean operators, and wildcards are, and how you can work with the found results. Finally we demonstrate how you can easily automate your research with scheduled search sets. No more excuses for not using DEVONagent for serious searching!
Power knowledge worker Daniel Wessel calls himself “a squirrel”. He uses DEVONthink Pro Office to collect and organize everything from web pages to analog post cards. On his excellent web site Organizing Creativity Dan talks also about how he uses our flagship application: … (mehr)
Zotero is a marvelous tool to use for capturing, managing and citing sources but once the notes and sources are in a Zotero library collection, moving them around inside it is a very clunky process. It can be done, but not easily. In order to organize my notes with ease and print the information out, I move copies of the notes from Zotero into DEVONthink Pro and do my sorting, organizing and printing there.” … (mehr)
DEVONthink Pro Office power user Luc Beaulieu has created a few standard templates for some key academic activities: Research grants, research contracts, general research projects, new students, new manuscripts, and conferences. And this is how Luc’s workflow looks like: … (mehr)
In the recent weeks we have released both DEVONthink’s new sync feature as well as a rewritten web interface for DEVONthink Pro Office as public betas via my blog. If you installed the plugins but are still unsure if you really exploit their potential check out our two new screencasts. Thirteen minutes well spent. Ray demonstrates how you can work on one database with multiple users on the local network and how you set up sync locations, e.g Dropbox, and keep your databases synchronized on all your machines. DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.4 are available. They let you move new documents into your databases more quickly. Save yourself a lot of now superfluous clicks by dragging files or folders to the application with the ⌘ Command modifier key pressed. It imports them and trashes their originals in one go. (mehr)
Writing copy text that’s easy to read is, well, not easy. Especially Germans like me tend to build long nested sentences. Fortunately there are simple mechanical tools like, e.g., the Automated Readability Index. It counts the sentences, words, and letters in a text and returns an estimate on how difficult it is to read. The number it spits out correlates roughly to the US grade level. (mehr)
