Today, in the heat of the summer, we’ve released another round of updates for DEVONthink and DEVONnote.
For version 2.9.13 we’ve updated our decluttering service for clipping articles from the web. In addition we’ve rearranged a few menu commands for clarity and improved importing bookmarks from Google Chrome. If you work in science or education you might like that you can now copy references also from Bookends purchased in the Mac App Store. (more)
DEVONthink To Go 2.1.5 was first with an update, today it’s the turn of DEVONthink, DEVONagent, and DEVONnote to receive an overhaul.
DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office 2.9.12 allow you to copy a universal URL for databases. Previously item links were only available for groups and documents. Link to other documents or to resources such as images and CSS files from Markdown documents with absolute paths too. Zoom or rotate images with trackpad gestures, set a reminder to a custom date, and access the subgroups of your Favorites in contextual, action, or popup menus. Finally, DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.9.12 let you zoom in and out of web pages with gestures. (more)
My preferences are set pretty much as they come out of the box, with one or two tweaks (for example, I want to trash the originals of any PDF files I import and run through optical character recognition). The DEVONthink Pro Office (DTPO) manual covers setting preferences in detail and of course these may change as I go along. (more)
OS X Yosemite, the newest incarnation of your Mac’s operating system, is about to be released. Version 2.8 prepares all editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONnote for it with user interface adjustments and compatibility fixes. DEVONthink 2.8 also comes with a brand new sharing extension. It allows you to clip text and web addresses from other Mac apps with a single click in case you like this better than using drag-and-drop. (more)
Today’s update for DEVONthink To Go brings the grid view on iPad and iPhone Plus also to databases and smart groups. The grid view lets you show your documents as large icons and move and group them with drag-and-drop. Previously this was only possible within databases. (more)
We have told the great people at Readdle that our mobile users love the combination of their Scanner Pro app and DEVONthink to Go. Scanner Pro lets you use your iPhone’s or iPad’s camera for quickly scanning paper documents wherever you are. It applies all sorts of magic to make the document look as good as possible and then lets you share the created PDF with other apps. (more)
I first came across DEVONthink whilst working through one of the periodic urges I get to review and make changes to my digital organisation habits, Again I had become disillusioned with the futile search for ‘one app to rule them all’. I was a longtime user of Evernote, however I’d never been quite satisfied with its storage of files within notes (I’m unable to explain this rationally), and the recent move to limit the usage of free account holders hampered my workflow, which is part personal, part work and across several devices. Our latest update to DEVONthink to Go, version 2.1.4, features a rewritten Action menu based on the standard iOS share sheet. Share text, images, or whole documents with as few taps as possible. Quickly print documents, copy a universal item link for them that you can use from any app that works with URLs, or capture web pages as web archives. (more)
Apple has just released DEVONthink To Go 1.4.3 to the App Store. The maintenance update makes the app display RTF documents again on iOS 8. Also, it brings new iOS-8-like visual style and fixes other minor glitches. (more)
Today everything revolves around research! We’ve updated all three editions of DEVONagent as well as DEVONsphere Express with support for new search engines and file formats.
DEVONagent now searches using StartPage, scans all bookmarks in DEVONthink, and brings new options for automatically filing found results in your research database. But even if you use DEVONagent Pro’s internal archive, this release is for you: Version 3.9.6 returns more comprehensive search results by finding terms across all metadata fields. (more)
