Push Notifications for Sync and More

December 13, 2018 — Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann

DEVONthink 2.11 and DEVONthink To Go 2.7, released today, add push notifications to the synchronization. Whenever you now make changes to your databases our app sends notifications to all your other devices telling them that something new is waiting for them. That means that it takes much less time before changes are available on all your devices. And as a bonus, it lets us wake up DEVONthink To Go, even when your iPhone or iPad is still in your pocket or bag, and pull the new data in the background.

DEVONthink on both platforms also shows an warning now for when you change the encryption key of a sync store, and makes the automatic sync intervals shorter.

DEVONthink 2.11

If you (need to) integrate news sources into your work environment, e.g., because you’re a researcher, student, journalist, or lawyers, then you’ll like that DEVONthink for Mac now supports also JSON feeds. New contextual menu options enhance the metadata entry window. Dragging text selections includes the reference URL of the source document, workspaces can be easier updated, and formatted notes and web archives keep their custom icons when saving changes.

Finally, version 2.11 improves the reliability of using Spotlight importers on macOS Mojave, better names files created by dragging pages from the PDF sidebar to the Finder, and enhances the built-in web server of DEVONthink Pro Office. The Support Assistant is now loaded live and uses styled, longer tips.

DEVONthink To Go 2.7

On the mobile side, DEVONthink To Go 2.7 adds also an outline view that lets you browse the tables of content of PDF documents and quickly navigate them. An option to sort by date added makes it easy to locate new items. In addition, version 2.7 improves the handling of tags when you move groups or documents to the trash, the keyboard handling when searching, and the reliability of the automatic PDF double spread mode. Imported email messages receive the original message’s creation date.

We recommend these free updates to all users. Get them directly by using the apps’ update function, our Download page, or the App Store app. If you purchased the software in the Mac App Store you’ll receive the update as soon as it has passed Apple’s review.
