Finding documents in DEVONthink To Go is easily done with its search field. But what about searching the document you’re currently viewing? In native document formats, e.g., Markdown or plain text, you can easily run an in-document search.

If you have an open document and want to search in it, tap the magnifying glass in the toolbar to start a new in-document search. Alternatively, search for a document via the search field, then select a native document, e.g., Markdown. The document opens with the in-document search activated and displays the first search hit.

Click the View Options toolbar button and:

  • Enable or disable Open Search Automatically to control showing search hits immediately when you select a document in the search results.
  • Enable Use Advanced Search to show a popover of the search hits or disable it to show the simple search bar over the keyboard.

In the simple search bar, tap the up and down arrows to navigate through the search hits. And in the advanced search popover, tap the desired line to jump to it.

Note: This does not show search hits in Quick Look only formats, e.g., Word, Numbers, OmniOutliner, etc.
