As my professional role has developed I have become more involved in authoring, reviewing, and submitting academic papers, amongst other activities such as grant and report writing. Prior to DEVONthink Pro Office (DTPO), there was a lot of flicking through numerous PDFs and web pages, whilst trying to keep track of different sections of writing, of which there are always several on the go at once. OS X Yosemite is peeking around the corner. Today we’ve released updates for DEVONagent Pro through Lite that get them ready for Apple’s newest iteration of its Mac operating system. In addition version 3.8.2 searches Baidu, the #1 search engine in China, and the Pro edition lets you easily share web content. Scanners in version 3.8.2 are more accurate and the new version better filters links to social media, e.g. retweets. DEVONthink To Go 2.2 is now available with Spotlight support. Find your documents from anywhere on your iOS device simply by swiping down from the top of the screen. The update automatically processes all present databases for Spotlight and keeps the index current in the background. (more)

Version 2.1.7 of DEVONthink To Go has just passed Apple’s review. It adds an option to clear the global inbox and makes the grid view available on all devices. The grid view lets you browse your document collection with larger previews and organize them with drag-and-drop, similar to the announced iOS 11. You activate the grid view by tapping the item count button of a group or by swiping right. (more)

Yesterday DEVONthink began to no longer launch for some people. The issue is related to an expired Apple provisioning profile and already hit many other applications earlier this year. Apple now provides profiles with a longer life period. This doesn’t do away with the problem forever but at least delays its next occurrence. (more)

DEVONthink 2.9.6, which we have just released, brings another bunch of workarounds for issues related to macOS Sierra’s broken PDF engine and scanner support. Both DEVONthink and DEVONnote also add new conditions to smart groups and honor metadata provided by ELO Office. The sharing extension for DEVONthink supports images, e.g., from web browsers, and uses less energy. Today we’ve released a bug-fix release for DEVONthink Pro Office. Version 2.9.14 fixes a random issue with the text recognition (OCR) as well as issues related to thumbnailing PDFs, exporting items, and synchronizing databases with indexed items. In addition it fixes an issue where the metadata entry panel didn’t close on computers with a Touch Bar. (more)

Some people say that our apps are not “social” enough now with Facebook and Twitter being still the main trends in the industry. We listened and proudly present a brand new freeware app: CareTaker for Facebook. Never get your friends kicked out of your news feed again. Don’t get calls from annoyed friends telling you that you don’t like their posts. And all this without wasting even more time on Facebook. (more)

Today Google announced that they would shut down their online RSS reader service Google Reader on July 1, 2013. So if you are a Google Reader subscriber looking for an alternative you may not yet know that DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office are excellent news reader, too! (more)
