Some of you may have already asked whether DEVONtechnologies will make DEVONthink & Co. available on the new Mac App Store. We won’t — we already have now!
Apple had really given us a hard time. You all love our applications for their sophisticated functionality. Apple does not always, especially not when we are using functionality that Apple has not yet made publicly available to developers. But, here we are: DEVONnote has been approved tonight by Apple and is available for US $24.99 in the Productivity category on the App Store! (more)
Just before Christmas Joe Kissell, the author of Take Control of Getting Started with DEVONthink 2, Take Control of Your Paperless Office and many other great books, called and told me that he would be driving from his home in Paris, France, to Nürnberg, Germany. He managed to make a pit-stop and we managed to have lunch at the Rossknecht, a traditional German-cuisine restaurant here in Bietigheim-Bissingen, right in the middle of the busy Sternlesmarkt Christmas market. A while ago we worked with Take Control Ebooks to bring you Take Control of Getting Started with DEVONthink 2 as an addition to our built-in documentation. We asked Joe Kissell to write the ebook as he is not only an avid DEVONthink user but also a great tech writer who knows how to explain things to non-techie people. (more)
Today we have released version 2.0.3 of all editions of DEVONthink as well as of DEVONnote. We have added a number of enhancement such as support for drag-and-drop of multiple email messages from Apple Mail or easier to use folder action scripts, and fixed quite a few bugs and glitches. Definitely an update not to miss!
Mac user Boris Nienke has published a nice little video on his blog ‘nSonic’ where he shows how fast one gets rid of a 16-sheet paper document using the ScanSnap S1500M and DEVONthink Pro Office. His commentary is in German language but it might be worth watching even if you don’t understand German. Click here to watch it.

In the last two weeks we have installed a brand new customer database server and updated all self-service forms in our support area. Everything from trial extensions to upgrade requests is connect live to the database now — no more waiting for email. (more)
We are already present on Twitter and Facebook where I also post my blog articles and also some unrelated stuff like my progress on our iPhone/iPad application. Recently, LinkedIn has added company profiles to their network and if you are a LinkedIn user please feel free to follow us on your preferred social network, too.
When strange things happen on a Mac, like settings not being stored, license codes not being accepted, or DEVONthink databases behaving unexpectedly, file permissions could be the cause. UNIX permissions and Access Control Lists (ACLs) define what the logged-in user and the applications opened by her can do with items in the file system. If you want to learn more about permissions, have a look at Take Control’s new ebook Take Control of Permissions in Snow Leopard which explains this geeky subject in easy language and hands-on manner.
