With our maintenance update 2.9.16 for DEVONthink we focused on enhancing the built-in synchronization. We now let you import multiple databases at the same time from a sync location and pending items are automatically downloaded from the next available location. (more)
Information worker Yann Rousse switched from Evernote to DEVONthink. He described how he managed the transition in detail in an excellent blog post on Medium:
Moving to DEVONthink from Evernote is not a trivial change. The new tools available to handle my Information and Knowledge activities are quite different and in many ways, far more powerful. The learning curve has started for me but I feel DEVONthink is not only excellent but most importantly the proper fit for me. I’m just beginning to perceive how I can now extend my use of such tool as most barriers I had with Evernote have been lifted now. (more)
macOS Sierra 10.12.2 will soon be knocking at the door. DEVONthink 2.9.7, which we have released today, addresses further PDF issues related to Sierra (but does not fix them all; they’re just too many). (more)
“Alles neu macht der Mai,” Germans are saying. We do it already in April! We have just released maintenance updates for all three editions of DEVONthink as well as for DEVONnote. The update improves the reliability of synchronization, clipping with the Clip To DEVONthink browser extension as well as the bookmarklets, and many other parts of the apps. If you’re using the new web interface of DEVONthink Pro Office you’ll like that we have made it a lot faster. (more)
Leaving academia behind (mostly) for now, we come to the tangled mess of information gathered during my personal life. I don’t do clutter and so, until I started using DEVONthink Pro Office (DTPO) a few months ago, there actually wasn’t much information collected and stored. (more)
We’ve finally decided to replace the system PDF sidebar with our own code to fix some long-standing issues with macOS El Capitan and later. DEVONthink 2.9.15 brings a completely rewritten PDF sidebar that is not only more reliable than its macOS counterpart but also offers better clipboard, drag-and-drop, and keyboard navigation support. As my professional role has developed I have become more involved in authoring, reviewing, and submitting academic papers, amongst other activities such as grant and report writing. Prior to DEVONthink Pro Office (DTPO), there was a lot of flicking through numerous PDFs and web pages, whilst trying to keep track of different sections of writing, of which there are always several on the go at once. The main apps in use here are DTPO, Bookends, OmniFocus. (more)
OS X Yosemite is peeking around the corner. Today we’ve released updates for DEVONagent Pro through Lite that get them ready for Apple’s newest iteration of its Mac operating system. In addition version 3.8.2 searches Baidu, the #1 search engine in China, and the Pro edition lets you easily share web content. Scanners in version 3.8.2 are more accurate and the new version better filters links to social media, e.g. retweets. (more)
In the next two blog posts I will cover how DEVONthink Pro Office (DTPO) has refined and enhanced my academic workflow, and more specifically how it has simplified storage, retrieval, manipulation and interpretation of the data associated with it. (more)
Yesterday DEVONthink began to no longer launch for some people. The issue is related to an expired Apple provisioning profile and already hit many other applications earlier this year. Apple now provides profiles with a longer life period. This doesn’t do away with the problem forever but at least delays its next occurrence. (more)
