The most-discussed new technology in the last few years is clearly the Blockchain. While it’s best known as the basis for Bitcoin it’s main advantage is its highly decentralized approach to data storage. Data is added in encrypted form to a robust chain of byte blocks that make tempering with it impossible. Reliable versioning comes with the approach as a free extra, and as all data is not only stored locally but also on an uncountable number of other computers world-wide data loss is something no longer worth thinking about. HoudahSpot is a powerful utility to find documents, images, and other files. It uses your Mac’s Spotlight database but gives you many more options that let you narrow down your search to exactly what you’re looking for. (more)
Privacy matters, even if there are some large companies seeing things differently. DuckDuckGo is a search engine that claims that it doesn’t track its users and respects their privacy. And it delivers good search results, too. Reason enough for us to support it natively in all editions of DEVONagent 3.8.3. (more)

An old friend of mine and fellow software developer, Hardy Macia from Catamount Software, passed away tonight after a long fight against cancer. We met just twice in person, once when we lived in Munich and he called in for an evening, and again when I drove up from Boston to his house, the “Train Station”. While we’re preparing our next feature release for DEVONthink To Go, a maintainance update to version 2.4.4 has just passed Apple’s review. It enables editing existing PDF annotations without switching to edit mode and fixes issues related to rotating the device, swiping databases, the grid view, and the PDF annotation toolbar. (more)
